We hit Dana’s home studio again this week laying down tracks for the new song, “Come and See” which we’ll be playing next week here at Clovis Hills.  I went over to Dana’s on Sunday and recording the acoustic and vocals while cool mo D programmed in the drums using EZ drummer.

It went smoothly and we laid the framework for Justin, Luke and Paul to come over last night and let it fly.  So the song is ready for distribution to the band, though not quite suitable for public consumption.

We’re going to be spending the next couple of months hashing some things out getting ready to go into the studio in June/July.  My goal is 7 songs that I’m really pleased with.  I’d love it if it worked out to be a full length, though I’d be happy with as few as 5 or 6.

I’ll be posting more on this as we go.  It’s quite a blast to get to play with these dudes and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes out of it!

Songwriting and being in charge

My boss has been out of the country lately as well as being involved in a lot of different things that keep her away from here and put the responsibility of the weekend services squarely on my shoulders.  I’ve got to say, I’m getting used to it.  Not that I enjoy when my boss is gone, mind you, a lot of times I think I’m doing it all wrong, but the feeling of knowing that services are impactful and that I’m not burning the place down is pretty great and is also forcing me to develop some organizational muscles that I’d prefer to keep hidden.  I’m being stretched and that’s a good feeling.

Of course, stretching all the time is no fun for anyone, which is why I’ve really loved getting to spend some time with other musicians writing music.  I’ve been going over to Dana and Tim’s pretty regularly for the last few months hashing out some basic ideas and writing some new stuff.  I’ve also been spending some of my down time cranking out songs that I really like and have decided to put together a 6-7 song ep.

Each of the past two weeks I’ve gotten to jam with some great musicians as we’ve been fleshing out some guitar and bass stuff.  We’re doing one of these songs at Clovis Hills in the next couple of weeks and I can’t wait!

I thought I’d share a little link love for two of the guys that I’ve been working with.
