As part of my goal to lose 100 pounds, I’ve taken our lead pastor up on his offer to join him at the gym. Three days a week we hit the tread mill, lift some weights and then head off.
I’ve had some other experiences with gym memberships and have never really stuck with any of them. I think this is because I’ve gone with friends or with Jenn and I always got to the point when I decided that I cared less about flaking on them than I did about getting out of bed early in the morning.
This makes Pastor Steve a perfect gym buddy. He’s my boss and so bailing on him is not exactly an option. Consequently, I’ve been to the gym three times this week (hitting the goal right out of the shoot) and am feeling good (except for the soreness).Â
It’s also been very cool to get to know Steve a little better, talk life and ministry. He’s a pretty smart dude.Â
So, I’m pretty convinced that this is going to be a long lasting thing this time (cuz frankly, I couldn’t get out now even if I wanted to). All I have to do now is get over the fact that a guy twice my age is sort of kicking my butt in the gym!

As you can tell by the title, my official weigh-in day has changed to Saturday.I was doing Wednesday for a while but with the weekends so varied as of late, it has been difficult to get any sort of consistency for any longer than three two or three days and so my weight-loss totals have been less than awe-inspiring.
This week’s weight-loss total: 4 pounds!
I’m pretty stoked about this, as I’ve had really successful weeks and then a bad day or two followed by a weigh-in, so my total to this point has been 1.5 pounds in a month. This is a definite shot in the arm for me.
Some of you may be thinking that this week’s totals were helped by a day of intense vomiting, though I believe that two liters of saline put on anything I would have lost from that and so these numbers are pretty legit. Regardless, I need all the help I can get and now, down a total of 5.5 pounds I feel like I’ve got some momentum!
Here comes that 100 pound goal! How’d you do?
This Week’s weight loss: 4 pounds
Total to date: 5.5 pounds

I have slacked a little on my updates, and here’s why; I haven’t been losing. I got off to a great start losing 4.5 pounds the first week, and then spent the next 2-3 weeks gaining 5 back.Â
Now that vacation is over and everything has settled down a bit, I’ve had two good weeks!
Last week I lost a pound and then as of today I was down another one, bringing my total to 1.5 pounds lost; not exactly the break-neck pace I was going for, but nonetheless I’m pleased. Jenn made a calendar where we log our points for the day each day, and that’s been a huge help. The only problem is that I have to stop lying about how many points I’ve had now.
Stinkin’ calendar.
How’d you do?

I realize that it is indeed monday and that I missed a week on this thing, but trying to remain faithful to this here’s what happened last week.
week 1: down 4.5 pounds!
week 2: up 2 pounds
My excercise was good, my eating was not. I think my body is saying, “Paul, I appreciate you working out, but for the love of donuts, please just stop eating!”
So this week, I’m back on, even on vacation. Wednesday is the weigh in since we’ll be camping and riding bikes a lot the next two days, I think it should be a loss. Keep those fingers crossed!

What can I say, I like alliteration.
Okay, so week one is in the bag and I am down 4.5 pounds!
I rode 31 miles this week and did pretty well counting points with the Dub dub.
Week two starts today. Jenn is done with school for the year, so her and I are going to take a little ride before she has to head out.
Got a BBQ tonight which will be tough to be good at, but the rest of the week is looking good!
How’d everyone else do?

I rode my bike to work again today and it was gorgeous, except for home slice in his SUV that totally cut me off! Seriously, does it take that much longer for me to get to the stop sign?
I was feeling frisky this morning, and encouraged from our guys in the band bible study on Monday, so I got up early, hit up a coffee shop, grabbed a cup o’ joe and did some reading. I’ve got to tell you, though, getting back on the bike for another few miles is tough after having that coffee.Â
So far so good on the points (that’s right, I’m rockin’ the dub dub for this one), and with meetings all day and only my bike here, there’s no chance of heading of campus for food, so my wife made my lunch today. That’s right fellas, she’s hot and she can make a mean turkey sandwich!

I’ll start by being a little honest. I have, what doctors call, a little bit of a weight problem (props if you caught the Tommy Boy Reference).
While I’ve been a bigger guy forever, the last few years are when I’ve been at my heaviest. Since I’m tired of lugging around all of this extra baggage, I’ve decided to throw down, blog style for some online accountability.
My goal - lose 100 pounds.
To do this, I’ve come up with a plan. I’ll be hitting up the gym for the first time in several years and since I’ve always had ways to avoid going to the gym, this time around I’m going with the one guy in the world I can’t stand up; our pastor. We’re going three times a week as soon as he gets back in to town.
In addition, I’m riding my bike to work three days a week. I’ve got the helmet, the light and even the padded bike shorts for that extra comfort.
I’ll be checking in here each week with my progress.
Here’s where you come in. Anyone want to drop a few with me with some accountability 2.0? Add your comments and track your progress. No judging, for as the Bible says, “Let he who is without weight to lose cast the first doughnut,” (or something like that), but just a little something we can do together.Â
