We’re handing out thousands of business cards that direct people to a website, askanything.clovishills.com, and an email address, askanything@clovishills.com. 

We’re hoping to hear from unchurch people in our community and find out what questions they have about Christianity, the church, and really, anything else on their mind.  Over the next month we’ll be categorizing these questions and each week we’ll answer the most asked about category as well as providing a live Q&A for follow up.

There have been a few churches across the country that have done this and we’re excited to bring it here!

For the most part, my boss and I rotate, with some other peeps sprinkled in as scheduling allows and for the most part, that rotation is fairly consistent.  However, since my boss preached the entire summer and I lead worship, it’s now her turn to lead, allowing me time to learn some of the technical aspects of our weekend services and produce more.

This is exciting, as I can observe everything we do instead of just being focused in on the music and can think through areas that we can get better.  The other bonus is that it will give me a little more time to write and do some recording, which I’m pretty stoked about.

Trouble is, I’ve got nothing rattling around in my brain right now, as it is fried from planning meetings (good meetings mind you, just a lot of them).  So I’m thinking of some ideas and trying to make sense of them, but all I keep getting are melodies that sound too much like “I’m a little tea pot!”

I love that he totally leveraged his Night Rider status to make this video “cool.”

That video has since been removed, as the author of that song, who claimed to have cancer, turned out to be a fraud.

It was great that this weekend was the Lord’s Supper because it is one of those services that, when we do it (4 times a year), reminds me of the kind of family we have here and how lucky I am to be a part of a church that, while it is reasonably large, feels really small.

 Thanks Clovis Hills for so quickly becoming our family, for teaching me what it really means to love people and for paying my salary (that helps!).

I have loved every minute of the last 2 years and look forward to many more.  I’m hoping to have some video of this weekend up here tomorrow.

Liz Fields is moving to women’s ministry and today was her last “official” day on our team.  The story is amazing and if you know Liz or Shirley K. (who’s switching jobs with Liz), you should ask them to tell you about it.  The thing I’m excited about is that now that Liz is no longer on our Worship and Arts staff team, I can brag about how big of a role she plays as a volunteer in our band!

Liz is one of the founding members of the church and she has been rockin’ the keys in church her entire life.  She’s known around here as “Mama Liz,” because, well, she just takes care of everybody.

You’d be hard pressed to find a better piano player or a better person, and while I’m dissapointed that Liz won’t be on our staff team any longer, I’m glad that she’s going to continue to rock the house on a regular basis on keys.

She’s playing this weekend, so if you’re here, go up to her, tell her thanks for all she does and wish her good luck in her new gig.  Without me on her team she’ll probably get a lot more done!

This is pretty significant because now, we will either have the first African-American President, or the first female Vice-President.

While I remain hopeful, yet skeptical that either candidate can bring about the “change” that they’re both talking about, this definetely says something about how far our country has come.

Whatever side you’re on, you’ve got to admit that this Obama vs. Mccain is more interesting than people thought it would be.
